“Selerant viewed this Symposium as an opportunity to provide invaluable insight to our customers and their industry,” explains Carlo Colombo, Selerant CEO, “As a developer of Product Development Lifecycle Management software solutions our goal is to provide companies with the toolsets needed to expedite new products to market. What better way to help our customers than to sponsor a conference that predicts what these new trends will be for these new products?

New Nutritionals
Trans Fats may have been the focus recently, but the new trend is for a more holistic approach to nutritional products that enhance both the internal health and outward appearance. Some will be targeted for specific areas, such as age-refining, others will be comprehensive for complete wellness goals.
|
| |
| “Unlike past trends of eliminating harmful agents, the new focus is on enhancing and increasing the positive ingredients to benefit consumers,” explains Colombo. |
| |
Generation Gaps
Continuing the trend of positive ingredients, the symposium enlightened attendees on the ironic twist of generations. In an almost back to the future spin, the generations value each other’s upbringing. Whereas the past wanted faster preparation and convenience, today’s generation wants the nostalgia of home-cooked meals, while maintaining the ease and convenience. |
| |
| How to capitalize on this market for Prepared Foods? This may seem like an oxymoron, but companies can capitalize on this market with foods that enable consumers to cook at home faster, but with more natural ingredients. While some may be concerned about the unpredictability of natural ingredients, Selerant demonstrated the control corporations could have through tight Specifications—down to the granular level for formulations—for these natural products in packaged foods. |
| |
Sustainability
Along with including natural ingredients in the product, companies are seeking now to include natural ingredients in the packaging as well. Utilizing recycled materials or materials that can be easily recycled—corporations can implement the latest buzzword of the industry—sustainability. |
| |
| In addition to the packaging itself, companies seek out additional ways to preserve the environment, reduce their carbon footprint, and conserve energy. |
| |
| While currently best practice methodology, and certainly good PR, many wonder if these practices could in fact lead to corporate guidelines or more rigid regulatory legislation. |
| |
Actionable Application
The Prepared Foods’ New Products conference provided attendees with the break-through concepts and forecasting trends. Selerant can equip them with the tools to apply the concepts in the real world through its completely customizable, scalable PLM solution, DevEX. |
| |
| DevEX’s suites seamlessly integrate team members as well as data, allowing departments to collaborate enterprise-wide from marketing, development, legal, and packaging. Comprehensive suites enable corporations to capitalize on the trends to reformulate products, redesign packaging, standardize operations, and optimize production, all while ensuring regulatory compliance. |
